Naomi Edelberg Janches was born in Montreal, Quebec, and as a child in Philadelphia began experimenting with pen and ink in theater, set and clothing design. Her interest turned towards advertising in college, and although she found the business world exciting she longed for self-expression through art. Years after taking a few classes in stained glass, she opened a gallery, "Artnook," in State College, Pa, and soon started working on a much larger scale doing permanent installations for homes and businesses. She has travelled extensively and lived in many corners of the world. Her signature style is strongly influenced by these places -- the fjords of Norway, the Northern lights, the depths of the Caribbean seas, and the ever changing forest surrounding her studio in the mountains above Boulder, Colorado. "As humanity becomes more dependent on machines and technology to sustain our daily lives, many people feel their senses have been dulled and disconnected. They long to feel, to be inspired, to reconnect with the world around them. My art seeks to reunite the senses through the movement, color and light of glass. Though glass is usually considered a rigid and unforgiving medium, I try to find the natural fluidity that lies within the glass itself, expanding on its sensuality and allowing its natural swirls, curves and patterns to find their full expression. Look and you will find not a narrative but more an autobiography." "My goal is to use reclaimed glass and lead free solder as often as possible. I am committed to finding new ways to create art while putting less of a strain on our earths' resources." -Naomi Edelberg Janches |
